The Windows app, home to services like Windows 365 Cloud PCs, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Microsoft Dev Box, is getting better. Microsoft is rolling out some improvements to its Windows web app, making remote work feel more seamless than ever.
Microsoft adds new features and improvements to the Windows web app
While the app became generally available in June 2024, Microsoft is now focusing on Windows web app improvements, especially for users on the browser-based version. One of the most noticeable upgrades is the new Remote App Launcher. It’s tucked right into the web app’s toolbar.
Click it, and you can quickly launch other remote apps without switching tabs or jumping back to the main screen. It’s a cleaner, more efficient way to work — and another example of how the Windows web app improved usability in subtle but impactful ways.
You can now print directly to local printers connected to your PC, without any workarounds needed. It’s a small change, but for anyone used to remote sessions, it’s a massive quality-of-life improvement.
Switching between the web and desktop apps is a lot easier now
Microsoft is also making it easier to switch to the desktop version of the Windows app, which supports advanced features like multi-monitor setups. A new “Connect in desktop app” option allows users to seamlessly move from the web session to the installed desktop app.
In short, these Windows web app improvements show Microsoft’s steady push to make remote work simpler, faster, and less frustrating.
