If you’ve ever worked in a dark room with a glaring monitor, you probably know how helpful Night Light can be. The feature cuts blue light on your screen to reduce eye strain and improve sleep. But if you’re using one of Dell’s new Windows on Arm laptops with an external monitor, don’t count on it.
Dell has confirmed that Night Light won’t function on secondary displays across several of its latest Arm-based models, including the Inspiron 14 5441, Inspiron 14 Plus 7441, Latitude 5455, Latitude 7455, and XPS 13 9345.
According to Dell, this isn’t a bug in Windows or a hardware issue on its end. Instead, the issue stems from the Qualcomm Oryon chipset powering these machines. Essentially, the chip doesn’t fully support the Night Light feature when a second screen is connected.
There’s no workaround from Dell. The company says users can try adjusting color profiles using third-party tools, but native Night Light won’t work on external displays.
Dell isn’t promising a fix for current models, but it does suggest that future Arm devices might not have this problem. Microsoft is betting big on its next wave of Snapdragon-powered PCs, so full feature parity—including things like Night Light—will be something to watch.
